New York City – Richmond Ontario Canada – Kitchener – Richmond – Albany Upstate New York USA – New York City

2009 - May 11 - 25

Mo slept almost the entire flight. We landed in New York City on Monday around noon.

Surprisingly the formalities didn´t cause any problems. After we found the first green spot on the airport, where Mo could do what was needed, we thankfully sank into the seats of our rental car. On the nine hour trip to Richmond (near Ottawa) tiredness took hold of us and we had to stop several times.
On Tuesday morning we reached Donna and her red gang in bright sunshine.

The day passed quickly while chatting, taking Rev to the chiropractor, shopping in a petsmart store and having dinner at the best burger restaurant in town. We got to know Rev as a very friendly and attentive dog with great confidence in life and people. He immediately started extensive cuddling with me in the back of our car while he was taken to therapy.
The whole Wednesday was dedicated to preparation for the Specialty. While Donna and I bathed six dogs, Stephan had fun mowing the lawn.

At this point we once again express our sincere gratitude to Donna for letting us stay at her place for such a long time. We felt immediately welcome.
Early Tuesday we left for Kitchener. It was a six hour drive straight west, passing Toronto. Within just a few hours the hotel was flooded with red dogs. It was thrilling to finally get to know the faces behind the many names I had heard or read before. During the Specialty nights (see separate report). Stephan and I hosted Rev´s daughter Nina (Dalry´s Fashionably Late) in our hotel room. Nina was in standing heat, too, so she couldn´t stay with her primary male compagnion. You can imagine how much fun the two ladies had with each other. Stephan and I fell so deep in love that we were tempted to abduct Nina to Germany. The only reason to prevent us from doing so was our respect for Laura :-)

Nina, Mo and me

These days we watched Rev in the WCX field test, in obedience and in the conformation ring. He is an excellently trained, cooperative, attentive partner with a lot of speed, style and steadiness. He impressed me more than I´d ever expected. But I must admit that I lost my objectivity already a long time ago ;-)

Due to the tight scedule and different locations of the Specialty we had to find new mating places for Rev and Mo every day. But this did not seem to bother the lovers who did what they were expected to do.

On our way back from the Specialty Stephan and I stopped at the Niagara Falls. Before leaving Canada we stayed for two more days at Donna´s place visiting the capitol Ottawa (a really laid back city!) and joining a training session of the K9 Ottawa Valley Search and Rescue Dog Association.

The weekend before returning home we spent in wonderful Upstate New York where Stephan had a business meeting.

Never before had we met so many dog friendly people! No single day passed without Mo being cuddled by strangers. The magic words „She´s a service dog!“ even allowed us to enter restaurants and cafes with her in spite of legal restrictions. But nobody, not even in Canada, knew the breed. The only „problem“ we were confronted with was where to walk the dog. Although we were surrounded by beautiful nature we were unable to find any tracking paths where Mo could run unleashed like she is used to. It appeared that most dogs are walked on leash around blocks of houses or in parks. Furthermore, we were overwhelmed by the amount of wildlife and ticks we encountered even during the shortest walk in Upstate New York. Now, back home, Mo has been enjoying racing with her two black buddies even more – let´s see how long her pregnancy will allow her to do so ;-)
